HISTORY

Plas yn Yale / Plas yn Iâl is the ancestral home of the Yale family. Linus Yale (descendant) designed bank locks in the 1840s, leading to the world‑famous Yale Lock Company. “Iâl” means “fertile” in Welsh. During Edward I’s conquest, Iâl was annexed and anglicised as Yale, though the area remained culturally Welsh until the Statute of Rhuddlan. The house sits within 50 acres of Registered Historic Parkland, with 150 acres managed for conservation.
